I. Context
Vietnam has many advantages to develop shrimp farming and processing shrimp products, especially in the Mekong Delta, which accounts for 95% of shrimp production and is also the center of shrimp processing factories. In recent years, shrimp has increasingly accounted for a large proportion of our country’s total seafood export turnover. In 2022, Vietnam’s shrimp exports will reach a record of 4.3 billion USD, an increase of 11% compared to 2021. According to a report from the Directorate of Fisheries, in 2022 the country will produce 41,000 broodstock shrimp (21,000 whiteleg shrimp and 20,000 black tiger shrimp); The whole country has 2,294 brackish water shrimp breeding establishments, shrimp seed production in 2022 will reach 159.5 billion, with a shrimp farming area of 747,000 hectares, output reaching 1,080,600 tons. Currently, Vietnam is still the third country in the world after India and Ecuador in shrimp exports. On average, over the past 5 years, our country’s shrimp exports have grown by 5% per year. The main markets of Vietnamese shrimp are still the US, Japan, EU, China, Korea, etc.
Despite achieving record export results in 2022, however, in 2023 the shrimp industry is forecast to face many difficulties due to market fluctuations, including: i)Despite achieving record export results in 2022, however, in 2023 the shrimp industry is forecast to face many difficulties due to market fluctuations, including: i) Challenges include stronger competition with Ecuador and India. By 2023, Ecuador is expected to produce more than 1.5 million tons of shrimp, twice as much as Vietnam’s whiteleg shrimp output (more than 700,000 tons); ii) Imported shrimp prices on the world market have gradually decreased since the second half of 2022 and are expected to continue to decrease when global supply increases to about 6 million tons, causing domestic shrimp prices to plummet; iii) The European economy continues to face difficulties, so shrimp exports to the EU are not evaluated positively in 2023. For the Korean market, in the first half of 2023, shrimp imports from this market will slow down according to the trend in the last quarter of 2022 due to economic difficulties, then recovery. For the US market, there is a tendency to decline from the fourth quarter of 2022 and continue to decline deeply in the first 4 months of this year; iv) Interest rates are expected to be high, increasing financial costs will continue to affect the net profit margin in shrimp farming investment…
The reduction has continued for several days, the unfavorable weather has continued, the disease in farmed shrimp has become complicated, production costs have increased… causing shrimp farmers in many Mekong Delta provinces to decide to suspend their ponds. Especially HIGH-TECH SHRIMP FARMS.
High-tech shrimp farming is a model that helps manage the farming cycle in three main aspects: Efficiency of farm management, control of water environmental indicators, and management of equipment in the pond. Apply information technology to control water environment indicators, record shrimp farming logs, and intelligently control pond equipment such as automatic feeding machines, water fans, and oxygen aerators. Investment costs for technology account for a fairly large amount, so when shrimp prices decrease combined with other unfavorable factors, it will have a big impact on this model.
In order to contribute to helping the shrimp industry OVERCOME DIFFICULTIES, stabilize production, increase competitiveness in the market, and maintain the set goals, Department of Fisheries (D-FISH), Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu province, Bac Lieu Shrimp Association (BSA) in collaboration with the International Cooperation Center for Sustainable Aquaculture and Fisheries (ICAFIS) – Vietnam Fisheries Association, WWF Vietnam, OXFAM in Vietnam – Project “Strengthening gender equality and responsible agricultural business investment in Southeast Asia – GRAISEA2, organizing “VIETNAMESE SHRIMP FORUM 2023 – 8th edition: “HIGH TECHNOLOGY SHRIMP FARMING TO ACHIEVE SUSTAINABILITY AND EFFICIENCY”.
II. Organizational form
The forum will include 02 spaces:
+ Conference: Held in LIVE format
+ Mini exhibition: The forum will arrange space to display products, technology, models… for units with related technical and technology solutions.
III. Attendees – 500 to 600 delegates
Representatives of the Directorate of Fisheries – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam Fisheries Association – VINAFIS, VASEP, Provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Provincial Fisheries Branches and Agricultural Extension Centers, Bac Lieu Shrimp Association, WWF Vietnam, OXFAM in Vietnam, Seafood processing and exporting companies, International buyers, Input supply companies (feed, seeds, microorganisms, equipment,…), schools – fisheries research institutes, NGOs, buyers and many media units…
The forum also had the participation of shrimp farmers from shrimp farming provinces in Vietnam.
OIC NEW is very honored to be present at the forum and introduce to all shrimp farmers very effective nanotechnology products to prevent diseases for shrimp.
Here OIC NEW will share about difficulties and challenges in shrimp farming in Vietnam in general, and high-tech shrimp farming in particular. Sharing scientific and technical solutions and clean shrimp farming processes using nanotechnology helps reduce diseases, reduce costs and stabilize production in shrimp farming in Vietnam.
